Are you ready to coach remotely?
One of the essential requirements of a sales manager is to have the ability to inspire and help each person of his team to achieve their personal success. The environment in which sales managers achieve these goals is becoming increasingly digital. In recent months we have been forced to adapt to this digital environment at a rapid pace. Face to face communication faded, online meetings were hot and happening. What does this mean for sales managers and coaches?
Well, let’s talk about remote sales coaching.
What is remote sales coaching?
It covers the situation when the sales coach is coaching his team, even if there is no common presence at the same place.
There are many names and terms out there to describe this phenomenon: distance coaching, web coaching, e-coaching, online coaching, tele coaching, virtual reality coaching, internet coaching.
Not easy to see the wood for the trees.
Personally I think that the term “remote” is appropriate especially if you want to coach your team from distance (in reality it will be a blended mix of online and face2face coaching). Hence the sales manager needs to master a new skill: “remote coaching”. He needs the capability to coaching remote his sales team/employees. Remote Sales Coaching!
The future of remote sales coaching
As manager you need to provide instructions and above all guide your sales team who probably never worked remotely. Working remotely and selling online requires a different set of skills compared to working in an office and using old school methods.
Sales managers are effective when their team is in the office. Continuously demonstrating and tapping the potential. Remote coaching however is a different ballgame.
Today remote selling is the new game. Salesperson work more often from home, which means that the salesperson and the customer are never at the same, physical location during the whole sales process.
The challenge? To create online touchpoints at every stage of the sales process. Are sales managers ready to handle this new situation? Given that so much sales work is now being done remotely it makes sense to prepare yourself as a sales manager to become a ’remote sales coach’.
